At a national level, Andalusia leads for patent registrations, which increased by 14.5% compared to the previous year. The other top regions for patent registations were the following: 
 
Madrid - 457 patents;
Catalonia - 453 patents

universities - 97 patents;
companies in Andalusia, Spain - 62 patents;
public institutions - 22 patents.
